Medical microneedling pen treating acne-scarred facial skin

Microneedling in Rawalpindi

Medical microneedling uses controlled needle penetration to stimulate a wound-healing response. It may help selected acne scars, texture, fine lines and stretch marks when treatment depth and hygiene are medically appropriate.

Treatment explained

What is Microneedling?

A sterile single-use needle cartridge creates many small channels at a planned depth. This differs from home rollers and from radiofrequency microneedling, which also delivers heat through insulated or non-insulated needles.

Problems and conditions

What can Microneedling address?

  • Selected atrophic acne scars
  • Uneven texture and enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Selected stretch marks or surgical scars
  • Some pigment concerns as part of a cautious plan

Possible suitability

Who may be a suitable candidate?

  • Patients with controlled acne and intact skin
  • People who accept several days of redness
  • Patients able to follow strict aftercare and sun protection
  • Those with realistic expectations of progressive improvement

Safety screening

Who may not be suitable?

  • Active acne infection, cold sore or open wound
  • Uncontrolled eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis in the area
  • A bleeding problem or medicine that changes risk without medical clearance
  • A strong keloid tendency or impaired healing that changes the risk-benefit balance

This list is not exhaustive. The treating clinician must confirm contraindications and any condition-specific precautions.

Individual assessment

Consultation and treatment planning

Assessment documents the concern, skin type, active disease, scar pattern, cold sores, keloid history, medicines and previous procedures. Depth and session spacing are selected by area rather than using one setting everywhere.

Step-by-step overview

How the treatment is performed

  1. Clean and numbPrepare the skin and apply topical anaesthetic when needed.
  2. Set the depthChoose needle depth for the area and indication.
  3. Treat systematicallyPass a sterile cartridge evenly while avoiding unsafe zones.
  4. Calm and protectApply simple aftercare and explain expected redness and warning signs.

Treatment duration

Treatment usually takes 30–75 minutes including numbing, depending on the area.

Anaesthesia or comfort measures

Topical anaesthetic is commonly used for deeper medical microneedling. Very superficial treatment may not require it.

The exact technique, setting and anaesthetic plan require confirmation from the treating clinician after examination.

Downtime and healing

Expected recovery period

Redness and warmthAbout 1–3 days

The skin can resemble mild sunburn.

Dryness or fine flakingAbout 3–7 days

Avoid picking and use only advised products.

Collagen changeAbout 6–12 weeks

Remodelling continues between sessions and for months.

When results may become apparent

Texture change is gradual and usually requires a series. Deep scars may need subcision, focal treatment, resurfacing or filler rather than microneedling alone.

Recovery and result timing are general ranges, not guarantees. Your written instructions and review findings take priority.

Before treatment

  • Avoid deliberate tanning and protect the area from strong sun before treatment.
  • Pause irritating acids, retinoids or exfoliants only when the treating clinician tells you to do so.
  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, fragranced product or active product on the treatment area.

Patient questions

Microneedling FAQs

Is microneedling good for acne scars?

It can improve selected depressed scars, but scar type determines whether another or combined technique is needed.

How many sessions are needed?

A series is common. The number and spacing depend on the concern, depth, response and downtime.

Is microneedling painful?

Topical numbing reduces discomfort, but pressure, vibration and pinprick sensations can still be felt.

Can I use a home dermaroller instead?

Home devices cannot reproduce medical sterility, depth control or assessment and may cause infection, pigment change or scarring.

Can PRP be added?

PRP may be discussed for selected indications, but evidence and benefit vary. It requires blood collection and sterile preparation.

When can I wash my face?

Follow the written protocol; gentle cleansing is usually introduced after the initial interval specified by the clinician.

Can microneedling worsen pigmentation?

Inflammation can trigger darkening, particularly after excessive treatment or sun exposure.

How soon are results visible?

Early swelling can temporarily smooth skin, while true collagen-related change develops over weeks to months.
