Energy-based treatment guide

Laser and Energy-Based Skin Treatments

Different lasers and energy-based devices target different colours, depths and tissues. The diagnosis, wavelength, settings, skin type and operator experience must align; one device is not suitable for every concern.

Patient information

Understand your options before deciding

What laser treatments may address

Depending on the device and diagnosis, energy-based treatment may be considered for unwanted hair, selected scars, tattoo pigment, uneven tone, texture or signs of ageing. Availability of a particular device must be confirmed.

Why Pakistani skin tones need careful planning

Melanin can absorb treatment energy as well as the intended target. Inappropriate device choice or settings can cause burns, darkening or lightening, so skin type, recent tanning and prior pigment change matter.

Consultation and test spots

Assessment reviews the concern, skin type, medicines, active infection, cold-sore history, pregnancy where relevant, sun exposure and previous procedures. A test spot may be advised for selected devices or skin types.

What treatment feels like

Comfort measures depend on the device and treatment depth and may include cooling or topical anaesthetic. Protective eyewear is required for laser procedures.

Sessions, downtime and results

Some concerns need a course because hair, pigment and collagen respond over biological cycles. Redness, swelling, crusting or peeling vary from minimal to more prolonged after resurfacing. Results and duration cannot be guaranteed.

Aftercare and cost

Follow the specific cleansing, moisturising, sun-protection and activity instructions. Cost depends on the device, area, number of sessions, treatment depth, consumables and review plan.

Treatment availability and suitability are confirmed by the clinic after assessment. These guides are educational and do not replace individual medical advice.

Patient questions

Laser and Energy-Based Skin Treatments FAQs

Is one laser suitable for every skin problem?

No. Lasers differ in wavelength, pulse and tissue target. Diagnosis and skin type guide device and setting selection.

Are laser treatments safe for darker skin?

Some laser procedures can be used for darker skin, but the risk of burns and pigment change may be higher with unsuitable settings or devices. Individual assessment is essential.

Will I need a test spot?

A test spot may be recommended for selected devices, concerns or skin types, but it does not remove all risk.

How many laser sessions are needed?

The number depends on the diagnosis, device, response and treatment goal. A course is common for some indications, but no fixed number can be guaranteed online.

Is laser treatment painless?

No treatment should be described as painless for everyone. Sensation varies with the device, area, settings and comfort measures.

Can laser treatment cause pigmentation?

Yes. Temporary or persistent darkening or lightening is a recognised risk, particularly after excessive energy, tanning or inadequate sun protection.
